About Me

Almost always, the creative dedicated minority has made the world better. ~Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

I am a public relations and communications strategist, based in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, whose expertise includes public affairs, strategic communications planning, foreign and domestic media relations, special event management (including international conferences), community engagement, social media marketing, and internal communications.

I am particularly interested in the application of public relations to social issues and since 2006 I have served as a public affairs/communications specialist for the U.S. Federal Government working on a number of important issues such as climate change, environmental conservation and sustainability, global health, human rights and democracy, religious freedom, refugee and humanitarian assistance, and empowering women and girls. This experience has inspired me to want to focus my passion for communications on creating positive change and improving people’s lives. My current work is centered around maternal and child health, specifically reducing health disparities and improving health equity for mothers, children, and families. My experience working with diverse audiences (government, nonprofits, civic groups,  private sector organizations, Diaspora groups and organizations, and the media) has given me the ability to expertly craft communication strategies that are targeted and culturally relevant. From 2013 to 2016, I volunteered my expertise as the Executive Committee Communications Chair of the Montgomery County, Maryland African-American Health Program, providing advice on messaging, social media strategy, and the development of community outreach events aimed at eliminating health disparities and improving the number and quality of years of life for African-Americans in the county.

I often speak at conferences and other programs on various communications topics as well as career development and leadership. I have a B.S. in psychology from Bowie State University, an M.S. in management with a public relations specialization from the University of Maryland Global Campus and additional training in leadership, team building, and employee engagement. My previous work experience as a Federal Government contractor included human resources, human capital management, and employee development and training.

In my free time I enjoy baking, crafting, puzzles, and spending time with my husband and two kids.
